Portofino is a small Italian fishing village, a traveler resort positioned in the province of Genoa on the Italian Riviera. The town packed round its little harbour is considered to be among the most beautiful Mediterranean ports.
Portofino is among the trendiest beach towns in the Italian Riviera and was the favorite of the rich and famous from its 1950s heyday onward. Portofino is a wonderful town of pastel colored houses surrounding a half-moon shaped harbor lined with shops, eating places, bars, and high-class resorts. Portofino’s crystalline green sea are excellent for swimming, fishing, and boating. In addition there are opportunities for walking in the area.
Portofino can be reached by ferry from Santa Margherita Ligure, Rapallo, Camogli, and Genoa. The closest train stations are in Santa Margherita Ligure, where you will find a bus to Portofino from the station.
Get around Portofino
Portofino, Italy is a walker’s joy simply because vehicles are not permitted in the town itself. The one thing that’s free of charge in Portofino is actually its landscapes, which you can enjoy on an amble around the town. Begin with a stroll round the harbor, which – lined with high-priced stores and eateries as it is – is stunningly wonderful, with colorful houses lining the quay and steep green hills rising behind them. Just about the most scenic walks takes you uphill for about 10 minutes along a well-signposted route from the west side of village.
Really, the most outstanding thing with regards to Portofino is the attitude towards life, so running off and “seeing the points of interest” won’t be your number one priority once you plan your trip. There are several well known attractions that may have the capacity to lure you from the beaches, but the sight from the harbor or any of the surrounding beaches is memorable and one could spend the whole day marveling at it.
