What is the best time of year to travel to Italy?
The best time of year to travel to Italy is not to go during Easter Holiday (it gets extremely crowded and this is the time that most Italians take their summer vacations, and many shops and businesses may be closed).
Best time to visit Italy is either spring (from April to May) or autumn (from September to November). During these seasons, the scenery is fine looking, the temperatures are mild, and there are relatively few visitors. But of course the best time of year to travel to Italy depends on the reasons of your visit. Art and culture sightseeing holidays or swimming in the Mediterranean sea, or even skiing in the Alps? For some of these activities July and August can be the best time of year to travel to Italy.
If you are looking for a place on a beach (on the Adriatic sea or Tyrrhenian sea) you must prepare yourself to overcrowded places and with hotels with no occupancy. Immediately two weeks before and after 15 August (the peak of holiday season for Italians) are the most crowded days.
However, if you are visiting cities like Rome, Pisa, Florence or any city (except Venice) for that matter, July or August are superb months. During the Ferragosto when most Italians will are on vacation, it becomes amazingly easy to visit these cities. There is no traffic and parking in Rome or Milan, for example which is normally a stressful impossible task – becomes so easy!
